CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – At least four people were transported to the hospital following two separate vehicle crashes along Kirby Avenue in Champaign on Sunday afternoon, according to the Champaign Fire Department.

The first crash occurred just before noon near the intersection of 4th Street and Kirby Avenue. Emergency crews responded swiftly, and three individuals were taken to the hospital. Fire officials cleared the scene around 12:23 p.m.

Roughly 30 minutes later and less than a mile away, another two-vehicle crash happened near Kirby Avenue and State Street. One person was transported to the hospital from that scene. Fire units cleared the area by 1:40 p.m.

No details were immediately available about the conditions of those injured in either incident.

In response to the back-to-back accidents, the Champaign Fire Department is reminding drivers to stay vigilant, especially when emergency crews are present.

“Remember when you’re out on the road, if you see emergency lights or hear sirens, go to the right,” the department stated.

The reminder comes as first responders stress the importance of giving clear access for emergency vehicles — a move that can help save lives during critical situations.
