CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – A nationwide campaign aiming to promote police-community partnerships through a day of community building is set to come to Champaign next month.

National Night Out, according to its website, is an event aimed at enhancing “the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.”

The annual event typically takes place on the first Tuesday of August, while select states such as Texas celebrate on the first Tuesday of October.

Block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, and other community events like safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, and exhibits are among the festivities that come on National Night Out.

Champaign’s National Night Out Celebration will take place at Garden Hills Park, located at 1701 West Bloomington Road in Champaign. The city sponsored event will run from 4 to 7 p.m.
