URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – No one was hurt in a house fire that broke out just east of the University of Illinois campus Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters from both Urbana and Champaign responded to the first at California Ave. and Lincoln Ave. in Urbana, east of the Alice Campbell Alumni Center.
Approximately 18 firefighters from Urbana responded, along with nine from Champaign. The fire is still under investigation, but it appears to have started on the first floor and moved upstairs.
The homeowner was unharmed but is displaced while the investigation and clean-up efforts continue.
That area of Urbana – and all of the University of Illinois area – is extremely busy this week with students moving back to campus.
