Champaign County, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has announced the death of one of its own.
The CCSO Facebook page says in a post that Jennie Ashley, a correctional officer with the county, passed away after a traffic wreck on Monday, June 3, at the age of 47. It says that Officer Ashley was off duty at the time.
“While only a Correctional Officer with the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office for a short time, Officer Ashley made immediate connections with coworkers and even helped mentor some starting the profession,” the post notes. It also says that Officer Ashley built a rapport with the inmates often showing great empathy to those with whom she interacted regularly.
The Sheriff’s Office post says that to show respect, uniformed divisions of the CCSO will wear mourning bands on their badges until the funeral has concluded.
