CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Illinois EPA will sponsor a free one-day Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event in Champaign County on Saturday, August 9. The event is open to all Illinois residents and will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the State Farm Center’s southwest parking lot off Saint Mary’s Road.
Residents must pre-register for a time slot at hhwevent.simplybook.me. Registration opened Monday, June 16, and remains open until all slots are filled. A confirmation email or text will be sent immediately, and registrants will also receive a postcard by mail to serve as their entry ticket.
Accepted items include oil-based paints, pesticides, chemical cleaners, batteries, old gasoline, pool chemicals, and CFL bulbs. Latex paint, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, and medications will not be accepted. A full list of acceptable and prohibited items is available on the city’s website.
The collection event aims to help residents safely dispose of hazardous household items that should not go into regular trash. For help registering, contact Environmental Sustainability Specialist Nichole Millage at 217-403-4780 or recycling@champaignil.gov.
