URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – A late-night apartment fire on Silver Street displaced a dozen residents but resulted in no injuries, thanks to the swift response of the Urbana Fire Department.
At approximately 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, fire crews were dispatched to 1401 Silver Street after reports of a working structure fire. Engine 252 was the first to arrive and encountered heavy smoke billowing from the exterior of the building.
Firefighters from Engine 252 entered the affected unit to find heavy fire conditions. Additional responding crews quickly assisted in searching neighboring apartments and ensuring that the building had been fully evacuated. All residents had made it out safely before the department’s arrival.
Roughly 20 Urbana Fire Department personnel were on the scene. Firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control within 20 minutes. Crews also conducted a thorough search of the structure, checked for fire spread, and secured the building’s utilities.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
