CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Parkland College will induct eight former athletes and coaches into its Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, February 14, during halftime of the 3 p.m. Cobras men’s basketball game at the Donald C. Dodds Jr. Athletic Center.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2026 includes Jenna Ashley, Christy Bushur Perino, Chuck Clutts, Haley Ginger, DJ Hoskins, Ashley Lillard, Brady Schanuel, and Ryleigh Warfel Smith. Honorees represent a range of Parkland athletic programs, including soccer, volleyball, softball, basketball, and baseball. Here are their full bios:
Jenna Ashley
In 2015, Jenna Ashley became the first Parkland College Women’s Soccer player to earn the honor of being named to the NJCAA Division II Women’s Soccer All-American First Team. She helped lead the Cobras to a 15-3-1 record and a Conference Championship while individually being named Conference Newcomer-Of-The-Year, Conference Goalkeeper-Of-The-Year, and All-Conference First Team. That year, she was also named NJCAA Region 24 Goalkeeper-Of-The-Year and All-Region First Team. She allowed only 6 goals the entire season while recording 15 shutouts.
Christy Bushur Perino
Christy Bushur Perino played volleyball for Parkland in the 2004 and 2005 seasons, earning NJCAA Division II Volleyball Second-Team All-American status in 2005. She earned First-Team All-Conference Honors in 2005, helping lead the Cobras to a 43-11 record and a spot in the NJCAA Region 24 Championship match that year. She was also named Conference Player of the Year and All-Region 24 First Team. A Parkland legacy player, she donned the same Cobras jersey as her two older sisters, Beth (2001 and 2002) and Katie (2002 and 2003), did before her.
Chuck Clutts
Chuck Clutts led Parkland’s softball program for nineteen seasons from 2001–2019. His impressive career record of 770-330 currently ranks him as the 24th most successful coach in NJCAA softball history and gives him a career .700 winning percentage. As the tenth head coach, he’s the longest-serving Parkland softball coach in history, and the second-longest-serving coach, regardless of sport. He led the Cobras to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament eight times, finishing as National Runner-Up three times. Coach Clutts led the Cobras to eight NJCAA Region 24 Championships and nine Conference Championships. His three National Runner-Up teams have all been inducted into the Parkland College Athletics Hall of Fame.
Haley Ginger
Haley Ginger played Parkland Softball in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. In 2017, she earned NJCAA Division II Softball Second Team All-American honors for her sophomore season as a result of her .479 batting average, 91 hits (11th in the nation), and 26 doubles (4th in the nation). She added NJCAA Region 24 All-Region First Team and All-Conference First Team to the All-American accolades that season. She helped lead the Cobras to a 42-11 record and a Conference Championship.
DJ Hoskins
DJ Hoskins played Parkland Men’s Basketball in the 2009–2010 and 2010–2011 seasons, earning the honor of NJCAA Men’s Basketball Division II Third-Team All-American following the 2010–2011 season. He helped lead the Cobras to an 11th-place finish in the NJCAA National Basketball Tournament. He’s the second most accomplished scorer in Parkland Men’s Basketball history, ranking second on the Cobras career lists for points scored (1084), Field Goals made (353), Three-Pointers made (131), and Free Throws made (247). He also recorded 82 steals, fourth-most in program history.
Ashley Lillard
Ashley Lillard played Parkland Women’s Basketball in the 2005–2006 and 2007–2008 seasons, earning the honor of NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Honorable Mention All-American for her freshman season. Ashley holds the distinction as the most accomplished rebounder in Cobra Women’s Basketball history, tallying 739 career rebounds. During the 2005–2006 season, she was also recognized on the NJCAA Region 24 First Team as she recorded 374 rebounds (12.4/game), ranking her 12th nationally in that category and establishing a new Cobra single-season record.
Brady Schanuel
Brady Schanuel was a two-time NJCAA Division II Baseball All-American player for the Cobras, earning Second Team honors following his freshman season in 2016 and earning First Team honors in 2017. He holds the program record for strikeouts in a game with 21 and holds 4 of the top 5 single-game strikeout performances in program history. He also holds the Parkland career records for wins (20), Earned Run Average (1.54), and strikeouts (261). He was selected in the Major League Baseball draft three times: 36th round by the Oakland Athletics in 2016, 20th round by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2017, and 27th round by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2018. He also pitched for the Brewers farm system until 2023.
Ryleigh Warfel Smith
Ryleigh Warfel Smith is one of the most accomplished volleyball players in Parkland history. She’s a rare two-time NJCAA Division II First-Team All-American Volleyball player, a feat she earned for both the 2018 and 2019 seasons while helping to lead the Cobras to back-to-back National Runner-Up finishes both years. During the 2018 National Volleyball Tournament, she was named to the All-Tournament Team. During her two seasons with the Cobras, she had a career record of 113–6, making her and her classmates the winningest volleyball class in program history.
Since the inaugural class in 2007, the Parkland College Athletic Hall of Fame has grown to include more than 100 inductees, recognizing players, teams, coaches, and administrators for their contributions to the college’s athletic tradition. This marks the 18th Hall of Fame class selected since the first induction ceremony in 2008.
