(CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The University of Illinois Extension, in partnership with Champaign County Master Gardeners and Prairie Gardens, invites community members to get their hands dirty and help protect pollinators through a special hands-on container planting event on May 27 or 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Prairie Gardens in Champaign.
As part of the Pollinator Pocket initiative, this interactive workshop guides participants in building their own pollinator-friendly garden in a container to take home. Attendees will learn how to support bees, butterflies, and other pollinators by selecting 3–4 native plants from a curated list, with expert assistance from Master Gardeners.
The $20 class includes all materials, a Pollinator Pocket yard sign, a 10% off shopping coupon, and an exclusive hour of private shopping at Prairie Gardens. “Pollinators play a crucial role in our ecosystem,” said Heather Miller, horticulturalist and Master Gardener. “Even a small container garden can make a big difference.”
With pollinator populations in decline, the workshop aims to empower individuals to create small but impactful habitats in their own yards, patios, or porches.
Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged. Sign up at go.illinois.edu/pollinatorpocketworkshop.
