URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – Urbana’s Juneteenth Celebration and Neighborhood Nights, scheduled for this evening at the Health & Wellness Center, have been canceled due to severe weather conditions and a power outage affecting the facility.
City officials announced the cancellation, citing safety concerns for attendees and staff. The event, which was to include food, entertainment, and community engagement activities in recognition of Juneteenth, will not be rescheduled.
Organizers had planned a range of festivities aimed at honoring African American freedom and culture. Juneteenth, observed on June 19, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.
