CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that pavement patching work at the Interstate 57/72 interchange in Champaign will begin Monday, July 28, resulting in a series of temporary ramp closures and lane reductions that may impact local traffic for the next two weeks.
Ramp Closures Begin Monday Morning
Starting at 9 a.m., the southbound I-57 ramp to eastbound I-72 will close for one to two days. After that work is completed, patching crews will rotate through the following ramp closures, each expected to last one to two days:
- Southbound I-57 to westbound I-72
- Northbound I-57 to eastbound I-72
- Eastbound I-72 to southbound I-57
- Westbound I-72 to northbound I-57
Mainline Lane Closures Also Scheduled
In addition to ramp work, lane closures on the I-57 mainline will be in place for approximately two weeks to allow for pavement patching. Existing closures in the area will remain unaffected by this new phase of work.
Plan Ahead for Delays
Motorists are advised to expect delays, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes when possible. IDOT urges drivers to:
- Stay alert for workers and equipment
- Observe posted speed limits
- Avoid mobile device use in work zones
