CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – As local students prepare to head back to school, the Salvation Army of Champaign County is launching a new effort to support teen wellness and confidence through the distribution of hygiene kits.

On Thursday, August 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Salvation Army will hand out 500 pre-packaged kits at the Red Shield Center, located at 2212 N. Market Street in Champaign.

This marks the organization’s first-ever teen hygiene kit distribution, organized in response to an often-overlooked back-to-school need. Many low-income families struggle to afford personal care items as they prioritize essentials like housing, utilities, and food.

Each hygiene kit includes toothbrushes, toothpaste, body wash, deodorant, and hair care products, with additional optional items such as feminine hygiene products, wet wipes, loofahs, body lotion, and Chapstick. Kits will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

To receive a kit, students must be enrolled in a Champaign County high school, and families must provide a student ID, enrollment paperwork, or an enrollment confirmation email.

The initiative is powered by community donations and volunteer support and aims to help students begin the school year with the confidence that comes from feeling clean, cared for, and prepared.
