CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Salvation Army hosted a hiring event today at 2212 N. Market St. in Champaign.
A barber from Krucial Kuts donated his time for free hair cuts.
The event was held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., with a luncheon at 2:00 p.m. for the veterans. The Salvation Army is aiming to help veterans find housing options and employment before winter starts. The organization is working with the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, as well as Express Employment Professionals. A barber from Krucial Kuts donated his time to provide free haircuts.
Event Organizer, Brandon Harrold, is a former veteran, and struggled with homelessness before this program helped him get his footing. “I went through the program myself, after living on the street with my dog. The Salvation Army helped put me up in a hotel until I could find housing and help board my dog until I could pick him up. My main goal is to show veterans a success story, and to get as many veterans off the street, into homes, and employed as soon as possible.”
MTD were proud sponsors of the event.
Harrold is hoping this event changes the perception that the only people who care about veterans are each other. “Through our partners at C-UMTD, Express Employment Professionals, and Krucial Kuts, I want veterans to know the community cares about what happens to them, and wants to see them achieve success.”
Any veteran could receive a free yearlong pass for MTD rides. Counselors from Rosecrance were on hand, as well as employment experts from Express Employment Professionals.
