CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign community is mourning the loss of a second teen following a tragic shooting that occurred in the early hours of June 29 on Holly Hill Drive.
According to the Champaign Police Department, the second 16-year-old male victim succumbed to his injuries at 8:37 a.m. on July 7. His identity is being withheld at the request of his family. The first victim, also a 16-year-old boy, died on the day of the shooting.
Police were called to the 1500 block of Holly Hill Drive at 12:01 a.m. on June 29 after receiving a report of a shooting. Officers arrived to find both teens unconscious in a front yard, suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Medical aid was provided immediately by both police and fire personnel before the teens were transported to an area hospital.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police urge anyone with information or video footage from the area to come forward. Tips can be shared confidentially or anonymously via Crime Stoppers, which is offering a $5,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest in this case.
