CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has released the results of two speed enforcement patrols conducted in July as part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s “Speeding Catches Up with You” campaign.

Special patrols were held on July 11 and July 23, leading to 22 traffic stops, including 20 citations for speeding, three traffic warnings, and one citation for a child restraint violation. In addition to these targeted efforts, deputies also focused on speed enforcement during their regular patrols throughout the month.

Sheriff Dustin Heuerman emphasized the life-saving importance of enforcing speed limits. “The faster a vehicle is travelling, the less time the driver has to react to unexpected obstacles in the roadway,” Heuerman said. “We’ve seen many car crashes, including deadly ones, happen because of speeding. That’s why this enforcement is so important—it could save somebody’s life.”

The speed crackdown was part of a broader effort across Illinois, with over 200 law enforcement agencies participating in similar enforcement initiatives during July.
