CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Early Saturday morning, Champaign police responded to reports that two women had been shot in a parking lot.

The Champaign Police Department (CPD) says it dispatched officers to the 1800 block of W. Bradley Ave. around 3:16 a.m. after being alerted to a shooting that resulted in injuries. Upon their arrival, officers say they discovered two 22-year-old Champaign women who had sustained gunshot wounds. One victim had been shot in the cheek and hand, while the other suffered a graze wound to the leg. They say victims received immediate medical attention from police officers and personnel from the Champaign Fire Department before being transported to a nearby hospital. CPD says the women were both last reported in stable condition and injuries were not life-threatening.

CPD reports that initial findings from the investigation show that the victims had been part of “an impromptu gathering in a parking lot when a yet unknown subject produced a firearm and opened fire.”  They say that the subject then fled the area. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown. Law enforcement officers are actively canvassing the area for eyewitness accounts and video footage that could provide useful leads. CPD is asking that residents and businesses in the vicinity with external surveillance cameras come forward and assist in the investigation.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities plan to provide further updates as new information becomes available.

CPD asks that anyone with additional information about the incident to contact them directly at 217-351-4545.
