CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign Fire Department and Neighborhood Services Department, along with the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance will be going door-to-door in Champaign Friday, October 25. They will be offering to check smoke alarms and installing free smoke alarms in homes that need them. as part of a Smoke Alarm Blitz, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Approximately 30 homes will be included within the boundaries of Garwood St. to the south; Market St. to the east; the dead-ends to the north; and Walnut St. to the west.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds everyone that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a significant role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. Residents are reminded to test their smoke alarms once a month and replace them after 10 years.
