CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District (UCSD) is set to host a groundbreaking ceremony for the much-anticipated upgrades to its Southwest Plant (SWP). The event will take place on Wednesday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m., and will mark the beginning of a project aimed at protecting public health, improving the local environment, and incorporating reliable, affordable, and renewable energy into the plant’s operations.
The ceremony will feature speeches from UCSD Board President Jennifer Putman, key contractors involved in the project, and a brief tour of the Southwest Treatment Plant to showcase the upcoming improvements. The upgrades will not only improve the plant’s efficiency but will also ensure it operates sustainably, contributing to the community’s long-term environmental and health goals.
