CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – A special screening of an American classic is coming to Champaign movie and baseball lovers in just under two weeks.
Part of the News-Gazette Film Series, the event is held with support from D-BAT, a premier baseball training facility in Central Illinois located in Champaign.
On July 5, make your way to the historic Virginia Theatre for a screening of The Sandlot. The American coming-of-age sports comedy film tells the story of a group of young baseball players during the summer of 1962, and the screening, taking place 63 years after the in-movie timeline, will look to replicate those days.
Cracker Jacks from the famous Virginia theatre concession stands, outdoor music featuring music from the time and baseball songs will look to set the scene like it’s San Fernando Valley, California in 1962.
There’s plenty for baseball lovers, too. A nine squares pitching target and netting, pitching speedometer, as well as giveaways from Champaign Park District, Virginia Theatre, and D-BAT are sure to bring out baseball enthusiasts. Additionally, the first 50 patrons who arrive in team uniforms will get in for free.
Admission is $7, and tickets can be bought from the Virginia Theatre website.
