CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – With the hottest few days of the year upon us in Champaign County, it’s important to stay cool and hydrated. Drinking a cup of water every hour, even if you do not feel thirsty, is one of many key tips to getting through the extreme heat that’s hitting counties all across the country like Champaign.
Staying cool indoors, and taking cold baths or showers are also steps that can be taken to avoid heat illnesses.

One of many avenues to staying cool is going to one of several cooling centers throughout the county.
The Salvation Army Red Shield Center located at 2212 North Market Street is one of many cooling centers in Champaign. Its hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on other days throughout the week.
Salt and Light, located at 1819 South Philo Road in Urbana, also serves as a cooling center throughout the week. It is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Public buildings, including libraries and municipal, state, and federal buildings, during normal business hours, are also cooling options. Champaign Public Library, Urbana Free Library
