CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Governor JB Pritzker has appointed Suzet McKinney, a nationally recognized public health expert, to the University of Illinois Board of Trustees. If confirmed by the Illinois Senate, McKinney will fill the seat vacated by Donald Edwards until January 20, 2031.

McKinney brings extensive experience in public health, real estate, and leadership roles. She previously served as the principal and director of life sciences at Sterling Bay, a Chicago-based real estate firm, and as the CEO and executive director of the Illinois Medical District, overseeing a medical research hub, biotech incubator, and numerous healthcare facilities.

McKinney’s public service contributions include leading Illinois’ alternate care facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic and serving as the deputy commissioner at the Chicago Department of Public Health. She also serves on several boards, including those of the Chicago Urban League and Lurie Children’s Hospital.

U of I System President Tim Killeen praised McKinney’s multifaceted background, noting her impact on public health and her leadership role at the university. McKinney holds degrees from Brandeis University, Benedictine University, and the University of Illinois Chicago and has taught at Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
