CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) – A powerful storm system swept through Central Illinois on Sunday afternoon, leaving thousands without power across multiple counties. Ameren Illinois reported widespread outages, with the hardest-hit areas including Champaign County, where over 2,400 customers remain without service. In Homer, around 700 are without power, and Sidney reports nearly 1,200 outages. St. Joseph is also significantly impacted, with over 1,700 customers affected.
Vermilion County also faced power disruptions, with around 600 outages reported in Hoopeston, along with several smaller outages in the area.
The severe weather prompted road closures as well, including a portion of I-57 in Champaign County, where multiple crashes were reported. Local officials are working to assess the extent of the damage and restore power to affected areas, but it may take time before service is fully restored.
