URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – On June 22nd, at approximately 1:44 p.m., Urbana police officers were dispatched to an armed robbery of a person inside of a local business. Officers managed to flood the area quickly and engage in a foot pursuit that led to two officers receiving injuries. They were ultimately treated at a local hospital and released. One individual, Shyjuan Dorris, an 18-year-old male from Urbana, was apprehended in an apartment building in the 1100 block of E. Colorado. Officers found that Dorris was in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest. While approaching Dorris to arrest him, officers saw him knocking on a door requesting to be let in. Officers arrested Dorris and attempted to make contact with the occupants of the apartment. The occupants refused to open the door for UPD officers.
A search warrant was sought and served at 4:05 p.m. with the assistance from the Champaign County METRO team. Two individuals were located inside of the apartment and transported to UPD for questioning. After obtaining more evidence, one individual, a juvenile, was released to a family member with no charges. A second adult male, Jayden Jackson, an 18-year-old male from Savoy, was also taken to jail. Both Dorris and Jackson were arrested for Armed Robbery, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and resisting a police officer that resulted in an injury. They were both transported to the Champaign County Jail. This investigation is still ongoing.
