The incident began around 6:19 p.m. Wednesday when Danville police attempted a traffic stop on a black Ford Fusion near Williams and Hazel streets, after discovering the registered owner had a suspended license. The driver, later identified as Pye, failed to stop, and a chase ensued.

The pursuit of the vehicle continued westbound on I-74, leaving Danville city limits and entering Champaign County. The suspect’s vehicle traveled through both Urbana and Champaign before eventually stopping in the 1500 block of Cunningham Avenue in Urbana, where Pye fled on foot but was apprehended after a short chase.

During his arrest, Pye was found to be carrying a backpack containing several rounds of live ammunition and suspected methamphetamine and cannabis.
