HENSLEY TOWNSHIP (Chambana Today) – A two-vehicle collision on Tuesday morning briefly closed North Staley Road in Hensley Township and sent two individuals to the hospital with minor injuries.

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred around 10:26 a.m. in the 2900 block of North Staley Road. A 2022 white Ford Escape, driven by an 84-year-old man from Mahomet, was traveling southbound and had slowed to cross a set of railroad tracks.

A 2017 grey Honda hatchback, driven by a 30-year-old man from Thomasboro, struck the rear of the Ford Escape. The impact caused the SUV to overturn onto its side, trapping a female passenger inside. Fire department personnel arrived to extricate the passenger, who, along with the driver of the Honda, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Following an investigation, the driver of the Honda was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

Staley Road was temporarily closed during the emergency response but has since reopened.
