CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Kayla Leitschuh, librarian at Franklin STEAM Academy, has been named the recipient of the Mann-Hankel Teaching Excellence Award. The award, presented by the Champaign Unit 4 Schools Foundation, recognizes educators who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, with nominees required to have at least 10 years in education and five years with Unit 4.
Leitschuh was surprised with the honor during an outdoor ceremony at Franklin STEAM Academy on Tuesday, May 19, joined by the principal, colleagues, and students. The award is named for Barbara Mann and Steve Hankel, longtime supporters of local education, and celebrates educators who make a significant impact on student learning and growth.
Michelle Gonzales, Executive Director of the CU Schools Foundation, said the award highlights the importance of excellent teaching in shaping student success and the broader community.
