CLINTON, IL (Chambana Today) – The University of Illinois Extension is offering a free program, “Unlock the Secrets of Sourdough,” as part of a monthly series in partnership with Warner Hospital Wellness Center. The event will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. on May 8, at 418 W. South St. in Clinton. Sourdough has been enjoyed for thousands of years, dating back to ancient civilizations. With just a few simple ingredients—flour, water, and salt—home bakers can create delicious loaves of this timeless bread.

The program will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the sourdough breadmaking process and offer a list of resources for continuing their breadmaking journey at home. Caitlin Mellendorf, nutrition and wellness educator at the University of Illinois, notes the growing popularity of fermented foods like sourdough, emphasizing how simple ingredients can come together to create something so flavorful.

While the program is free, pre-registration is required. Interested participants can sign up at go.illinois.edu/Warner or call 217-877-6042 by May 5. For those requiring accommodations to participate, the University encourages early requests to ensure access needs are met.
