URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — The Eastern Illinois Foodbank is calling on community members to get involved through a series of upcoming volunteer opportunities in Urbana.

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 9 a.m. CST, the food bank will host Open Volunteer Hours at its Urbana facility. Additional Open Volunteer Hours are scheduled for March 3 and March 10 at 9 a.m., followed by sessions on March 17, March 24 and March 31.

An Evening Community Repack is also planned for Thursday, March 12 at 4:30 p.m. CDT. The repack events typically focus on sorting and packaging bulk food donations into family-sized portions for distribution across eastern Illinois.

Officials say volunteers play a key role in helping the organization meet rising demand for food assistance. Tasks during Open Volunteer Hours may include sorting donations, assembling food boxes and preparing shipments for partner agencies.

Individuals, families and groups are encouraged to participate. No specialized experience is required, and flexible scheduling allows volunteers to choose dates that work best for them. To chose a date, click here: 3/24/26 Open Volunteer Hours · Eastern Illinois Foodbank.
