URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Urbana Police Department (UPD) has reported a string of vehicle burglaries that occurred during the Independence Day weekend.
In the early hours of July 6, 2024, UPD says an unidentified individual gained access to an unsecured underground parking facility and attempted to burglarize 12 vehicles. The incident took place in the 500 block of West Main St. in Urbana. A door to the facility had been left open, providing easy access. UPD officers arrived at the scene at approximately 8:30 a.m. and encountered several individuals whose vehicles had been broken into. Most of the vehicles were accessed by breaking the windows.
The investigation is currently active. Residents are advised to secure their valuables upon leaving their vehicles and to contact 911 if they notice any suspicious behavior.
