URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – A second fatal shooting in as many days hit the Urbana community Saturday night, leaving a 7-year-old child and a 43-year-old man dead in what police have described as a home invasion.

Urbana police responded to a 911 call around 7:39 p.m. in the 900 block of Lanore Drive, where reports indicated multiple victims with gunshot wounds. Authorities said the child was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to injuries. The adult victim, found near the scene, was also transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In a statement released early Sunday morning, Urbana police confirmed the investigation is ongoing but have not disclosed any further details about suspects or a possible motive.

As of 3 a.m. Sunday, the Champaign County Coroner’s Office had not released the identities of the victims, pending family notification.
