URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Urbana Park District and OSF HealthCare Heart of Mary Medical Center have announced a five-year, $150,000 partnership aimed at promoting health and wellness in the community. OSF Heart of Mary will provide $30,000 annually over five years, funding memberships to the Urbana Park District’s upcoming Health and Wellness Center.

“This partnership will make it easier for residents to access resources for maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” said Corky Emberson, Superintendent of Recreation. “It eliminates financial barriers and opens the doors for more community members to embrace wellness.”

The Urbana Park District broke ground on the Health and Wellness Center in May 2023. This $13.8 million project is funded through a combination of private donations, ARPA grants from Champaign County and the City of Urbana, $3.2 million in Park District property tax reserves, and contributions from the Urbana Parks Foundation. The center will be located at 2002 E. Washington St. and is set to open in early 2025.

The Health and Wellness Center aligns with the Park District’s mission to provide equal access to spaces that foster community health. Memberships will go on sale beginning November 25, with options available for individuals, families, and seniors.

OSF Heart of Mary President J.T. Barnhart emphasized the importance of such collaborations, stating, “Community partnerships like this are essential for creating healthier neighborhoods. We’re proud to support the Urbana Park District’s vision of providing inclusive access to wellness resources.”
