URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Urbana Police Department (UPD) responded to a shooting incident on the 1500 block of Hunter St. on August 17th at 1:32 a.m. The altercation occurred during a party that spilled into the common courtyard, where a firearm was discharged. Officers arriving on the scene found two individuals with gunshot injuries. One victim suffered a minor graze wound to the hand and was treated and released on-site.
The second victim, identified as 32-year-old William Booker, sustained gunshot wounds to the leg and torso. Officers administered life-saving measures before transporting Booker to a local hospital. After undergoing surgery, Booker was moved to the ICU. At 7:08 a.m., according to the Champaign County Coroner’s Office, Booker died as a result of his injuries.
UPD’s Criminal Investigations Division is in charge of this ongoing investigation. Officers are actively canvassing the neighborhood, seeking witnesses and video footage that might assist in resolving this case. Residents and business owners with exterior surveillance cameras in the vicinity are encouraged to notify the police department.
