URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – Urbana residents will have the chance to hear directly from candidates running for Mayor and City Council Ward 6 during an upcoming Candidate Forum on Thursday, January 30 at 7 p.m. The forum will be held at the Urbana City Council Chambers, located at 400 South Vine Street. This event is hosted by the League of Women Voters of Champaign County and is cosponsored by the NAACP Champaign County Branch and the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center.

As the City of Urbana prepares for its primary election on February 25, these forums provide voters with an important opportunity to hear from the candidates vying for their votes. The primary election is the only primary taking place in Champaign County, with the ballot exclusively featuring Democratic candidates. The forums will feature the following candidates:

  • Mayoral Candidates: Annie Feldmeier Adams and DeShawn Williams
  • City Council Ward 6 Candidates: William P. Colbrook and Grace Wilken

The venue has a limited capacity, but the League of Women Voters encourages everyone to watch through the Urbana City website’s YouTube page at UPTV6 Streams. A recording of the forum will also be available afterward on the LWV YouTube channel at LWV Champaign County.

Dr. Ruby Mendenhall, Urbana’s 2024 Poet Laureate, will open the evening with a special reading, setting the tone for the discussion. A moderator will pose prepared questions to each candidate, and each forum will run for a maximum of one hour. Attendees are encouraged to submit questions for the candidates in advance by emailing Candidateforums.LWVCC@gmail.com no later than January 28. Preference will be given to questions submitted by this deadline.

This event is free and open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend or tune in to hear from the candidates directly.
