CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Take a trip back to the summer of 1962 with a special screening of The Sandlot (1993), part of The News-Gazette Film Series at the Virginia Theatre on Saturday, July 5 at 2:00 p.m.

This beloved coming-of-age baseball comedy follows Scottie Smalls and a band of neighborhood kids as they navigate friendship, foul balls, and one unforgettable summer. Rated PG and running 102 minutes, The Sandlot has become a timeless favorite for fans of all ages.

In celebration of baseball’s enduring legacy, D-BAT Champaign is teaming up with the Virginia for an exciting pre-screening street event from 12:00–2:00 p.m. on West Park Avenue, just outside the theatre. The event will feature:

  • Nine Squares pitching target and speedometer from D-BAT Champaign
  • Baseball card giveaways
  • Outdoor music from 1962
  • Special prizes and surprise guests
  • Dave’s Dogs hotdogs on-site

Special Promotion: The first 50 guests who arrive in their baseball or softball team uniforms will receive free admission to the movie!

General Admission is just $7, and doors to the theatre open at 12:00 p.m. for early seating and activities.
