Juneteenth Emancipation Day Celebration: Saturday, June 15, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Douglass Park Don’t miss out on the oldest known celebration in the United States that marks the abolition of slavery. It’s a FREE event filled with music, various vendors, and an opportunity to learn about this significant holiday. Kids can have a blast creating arts and crafts, playing on the bounce house and obstacle course, or cooling off in the Splash Pad.
Father’s Day Fishing Meetup: Sunday, June 16, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet. Come on out for a FREE fishing gathering in honor of Father’s Day. Remember, you don’t have to be a dad to participate. Come solo or bring along your child, niece, or nephew for a day of excitement. No fishing license required.
Juneteenth Celebration: Sunday, June 16, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Crystal Lake Park. Enjoy this FREE community celebration of Black freedom and achievements in Urbana and beyond. Enjoy music, delicious food, fun games, fishing, community resources, and much more.
Sholem Aquatic Center: 2205 Sangamon Dr. in Champaign. Sholem offers an abundance of exciting features that are sure to create a buzz: a pool with zero-depth and fun play-and-spray elements, an eight-lane 25-yard lap pool, a delightful kiddie pool complete with a slide, a thrilling tube slide that will send you gliding into the lazy river, and enclosed body slides (minimum height requirement of 42” to ride). Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center: 1401 N. Broadway in Urbana. Situated at the northern part of Crystal Lake Park, the Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center by the Urbana Park District conveniently shares a parking lot with the Anita Purves Nature Center. In case of crowded days, there is a designated overflow parking area off Broadway Avenue, or you can simply park within Crystal Lake Park.
