With many cities getting a jump on Independence Day festivities, we’re here to help you plan your activities with our weekend top picks.

Villa Grove Freedom Celebration: Friday, June 28, 2024, from 5-10 p.m. at Villa Grove Richman Park.  Fire department touch-a-truck, a patriotic bike parade starting at 7 p.m. (lineup at 6:30 p.m.), and fireworks at dusk. Camargo Township Library Bubble Lady will be there from 5-7 p.m., Kiddie Train Rides begin at 5 p.m. The splash pad will be open, too!

Arthur’s Freedom Celebration and Fireworks: Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 2-10 p.m. at Jurgens Park. Central Illinois boasts one of the largest fireworks displays. Traditionally, the event features live music followed by a spectacular fireworks show. The display is visible from numerous locations around Arthur at no cost. Expect significant traffic congestion both before and after the event.

Danville Boat Club Thunder Over Lake Vermilion: Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 5-10:30 p.m. at the Danville Boat Club. Celebrate with fireworks by the lake! Music kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy the fireworks show at dusk. Entry is $5 per person, and children aged 10 and under can enter for free.

Arcola Fourth of July Fireworks Display: Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Best Western Plus Green Mill Village Hotel & Suites Convention Center. Witness the night sky come alive with fireworks from the City of Arcola. Savor the delightful offerings from food truck vendors as you bask in the ambiance of live music. This family-friendly event promises a good time for all, featuring an inflatable bounce house, face painting, food trucks, live music, and a spectacular fireworks show.
