CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – One day after being named Big 10 Player of the Week, Illinois cornerback Xavier Scott was named the Chuck Bednarik Award National Player of the Week. The honor is designated by the Maxwell Football Club. Scott forced three turnovers in Illinois’ 23-17 win over #19 Kansas last Saturday.
Scott had two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, one forced fumble, a sack, and eight solo tackles against Kansas. Scott is the only player in the nation to force three turnovers in a single game this season.
This Saturday, September 14, is Homecoming, and Scott and the Illini host Central Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Memorial Stadium.
