Severe storms threaten morning commute with damaging winds, hail, and tornado risk

Central Illinois is bracing for a round of severe storms expected to begin as early as late in the morning today. According to meteorologists, these storms could be strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts reaching up to 70-80 mph, large hail, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes. Nearly half of the area is now under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe weather.
