The Boneyard Arts Festival, an annual celebration of local creativity, will take place across Champaign County from April 4-6. A centerpiece of the month will be the 2025 Illinois Infectious Disease Conference in Champaign on April 15 and 16. These days will be dedicated to advancing our understanding of infectious diseases. Keynote speakers include Dr. Tania Bubb, the Senior Director of Infection Prevention & Control at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the 2024 President of Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology; Dr. Paul Offit, Director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; and Dr. Brad Nieder, a physician who is nationally known as “The Healthy Humorist” and mixes ample doses of comedy with health-related edification.
5,000 people volunteer with the American Red Cross around the Illinois region. They have responded to over 1,700 disasters in the last year, helping over 7,600 people impacted by fires, severe weather, and much more. These volunteers are apart of the almost 275,000 volunteers across the country, providing relief for disaster victims, blood, and emergency support for families and individuals.
In recognition of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the Champaign Police Department is teaming up with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois State Police, and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies across the state to intensify enforcement of distracted driving laws throughout April.
These recipients are Lieutenant Courtney Moravek, Engineer Taylor Clark, and Firefighter Jayvion Terry and the honoring will take place on April 2, 2025. The announcement will take place during the 2025 Edward Hoffman Awards Ceremony at the Champagin Fire Department Station 1 at 6:30 p.m.
