
Ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, foot traffic in downtown Champaign may look a little different.

Illinois football head coach Bret Bielema and his family have launched an initiative to honor heroes for this year’s Military Appreciation Day at Memorial Stadium.

The Champaign County Freedom Celebration will be host to a parade, evening activities, and fireworks tomorrow, July 4 near the State Farm Center. To accommodate for these activities, several streets in the area will be temporarily closed.

This year’s Champaign County Freedom Celebration will be more inclusive than ever, thanks to a new sensory-friendly activity sponsored by the City’s Equity and Engagement Department. As part of its ongoing mission to foster equity and inclusion in public spaces, the department has partnered with That Kid Place, a mobile sensory museum, to create a welcoming environment for individuals with sensory sensitivities, including those with autism and other disabilities.

Grab yourself some Cracker Jacks, popcorn and a cold beverage and come on out to Danville Stadium to enjoy a family fun tradition and root for the home team with the Danville Dans.

This year’s event featured a self-guided tour through six private gardens and two public spaces, showcasing creative approaches to garden designs and sustainable landscaping. The event also included the Marketplace at the Idea Garden, which hosted a wide range of local vendors offering garden-themed items, art, and handmade goods.

As of July 1, the City of Champaign Public Works Department is officially switching to the Brightly Citizen Portal, a streamlined platform for residents to request or report infrastructure-related services. The new system replaces SeeClickFix, which will only be monitored through July 8.
