Since the law’s introduction and upgrade, seat belt usage has surged from 15.9% in 1985 to 92.4% in 2024. However, there is still room for improvement. Law enforcement will be taking a no-excuses approach to enforcement. The key focus is nighttime enforcement, with Illinois data indicating higher rates of unrestrained fatalities at night.

The Illinois State Police (ISP) will join departments from across the country in Washington D.C. for National Police Week, held May 11 through May 17, 2025. Peace Officers Memorial Day will be observed on Thursday, May 15th, as part of National Police Week, to honor law enforcement officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.
