This is the second largest Cash Castle jackpot won so far, right after a $1.4 million jackpot was won in April, and a $462,000 jackpot was won in March. The game is a $30 progressive FastPlay game where thee jackpot begins at $100,000, the highest starting jackpot of any Illinois Lottery FastPlay game, and grows with each ticket sold until the jackpot is won. Since the Cash Castle’s start on February 27, more than Lottery FastPlay game, with prizes totalling to $24.4 million.

Over the past week, local Red Cross volunteers responded to five home fires in Taylorville, Farmer City, Benton, Decatur, and Nashville, assisting 17 people with immediate needs including shelter, health care, and emotional support. These incidents reflect just a portion of the more than 60,000 disasters the Red Cross handles across the U.S. each year.
Illinois enacted its seat belt law 40 years ago and strengthened the law in July 2003, allowing officers to ticket motorists for failing to use their seat belt. Since the law’s introduction and upgrade, seat belt usage has surged from 15.9% in 1985 to 92.4% in 2024. However, there is still room for improvement. Law enforcement will be taking a no-excuses approach to enforcement. The key focus is nighttime enforcement, with Illinois data indicating higher rates of unrestrained fatalities at night.
The Illinois State Police (ISP) will join departments from across the country in Washington D.C. for National Police Week, held May 11 through May 17, 2025. The annual observance honors the sacrifice of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, including ISP’s own Trooper Corey Thompsen and Trooper Clay Carns, who both lost their lives in 2024 due to injuries sustained in traffic crashes.
Peace Officers Memorial Day will be observed on Thursday, May 15th, as part of National Police Week, to honor law enforcement officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.

Illinois has played a total of 56 games at the United Center in total, with a 38-18 record. The Illini are 19-9 in regular-season games at the UC, including an 18-8 mark against non-conference teams. Their last visit was for the 2023 Big Ten Tournament. The Fighting Illini also played a regular season game there during the 2018 to 2019 season and played a non-conference regular season game in 2017 to 2018.
In response to growing interest in carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects across Illinois, the Champaign County Board has established the Champaign County CO2 Sequestration Activities Task Force (3CSATF). The task force will proactively study the potential impacts of CCS on the environment and public health, and develop ordinances to regulate such activities in the county. The 3CSATF is comprised of local officials, scientists, engineers, and public health professionals.
