Champaign County launches task force in response to carbon capture and storage projects

In response to growing interest in carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects across Illinois, the Champaign County Board has established the Champaign County CO2 Sequestration Activities Task Force (3CSATF). The task force will proactively study the potential impacts of CCS on the environment and public health, and develop ordinances to regulate such activities in the county. The 3CSATF is comprised of local officials, scientists, engineers, and public health professionals.

McKinley Foundation announces Community Social Justice Grants recipients

Grantees were awarded $1,000 each to support their work dedicated to the LGBTQ+ or BIPOC communities, food and housing insecurity, healthcare, and education challenges, or environmental activism. Grantees will showcase their work at the McKinley Foundation annual fundraiser on June 7, 2025.

Champaign Crimestoppers needs your help investigating a shooting in Urbana

On April 11, 2021, at approximately 4:37 p.m., a shooting occured in the 1100 block of Webber Street. Responding officers arrived on scene to find Musah lying in a yard with a gunshot wound. Officers and paramedics then immediately provided lifesaving care as he was tranported to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation indicated the victim was believed to be letting out a dog for a friend when he was approached and shot.

City of Champaign hosting 2025 Champaign Neighborhood Network Conference

The conference will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the I Hotel and Conference Center. The conference provides resources, tools, and information to increase the capacity of neighborhood residents, volunteers, and grassroots organizers to positively impact their neighborhoods using community engagement. It includes 18 shops from several departments, institutions, and community partners related to maintaining a vibrant and engaged neighborhood.

Cunningham Children’s Home asking for your support with their sensory room

At Cunningham, there are many children who’ve experienced trauma. A good example is Ace, who is a 10-year-old resident. When he’s having a tough morning, Cunningham staff bring Ace to the sensory room where he can jump on the crash pad, shoots hoops and listens to music. These tools are important to help Ace calm down and get ready to learn. Ace now asks to the sensory room because it has become something steady and safe in his life.
