This award recognizes exceptional performance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. A committee for the award recommends finalists approved by Illinois Chancellor Robert Jones. The recipients receive $1,500 and a commemorative award. Two staff members are recognized in eight of the functional categories.

Huff hall went on to host a series of sporting events for volleyball, wrestling, basketball, fencing, swimming and much more. On top of the sports competition, Huff also held graduation ceremonies, campus dances, concerts and entertainment shows, and intramural competition. It was also home to the “Original March Madness” during the Illinois High School Association state basketball tournaments from 1926 through 1963.

“It was honestly a super last minute and not thought out decision to make this race our punishment…It really is a blessing in disguise because, as a senior, who wouldn’t want to have a last semester tour around campus and ending at the Memorial 50-yard line?” said AJ.

Molly Cornyn is no stranger to the Roger Ebert Film Festival (Ebertfest) experience, having coordinated the behind-the-scenes logistics for the past three years. She handles all of the details, from organizing transportation and housing for the special guests, to ensuring the films arrive and everything behind-the-scenes is functioning. “It’s all about making the filmmakers, actors, and their guests feel welcome from the moment they arrive in Champaign. My job is also to ensure the audience has the amazing festival experience they deserve.”

The program is open to any UHS Student who commits to a minimum of 30 hours of volunteer service during the academic year. Students with 30 hours of service will receive a Certificate of Service. Students with 50, 75 or 100 hours of service will also earn bronze, silver or gold status and receive an additional recognition item. All participants will be recognized at the Mayoral Service Recognition Ceremony on April 16, 2025.

This occurs for one week only. Only leaves and non-woody plant materials accepted. No brush, branches, sod, or other materials are allowed. Leaves must be placed in paper lawn and garden bags.
