On March 11, UPD officers responded to reports of an armed subject at the 1100 block of East Florida Avenue. The officers found the suspect who began fleeing on foot. The suspect, identified as a juvenile, was quickly apprehended. The officers recovered a stolen handgun which was believed to be discarded during the pursuit.

Coffee With a Cop is a community engagement initiative hosted by the CPD. The event allows members of the community to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know officers in the community with no agendas or speeches. It is designed to bring officers and community members together in a relaxed informal setting over a cup of coffee. The event will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

The Vermilion County Animal Shelter is urgently seeking assistance from the community after taking in over 100 cats and dogs in the last two weeks. With space completely filled, the shelter took to Facebook on Saturday to announce they are out of room for dogs and are calling for immediate help from potential adopters.
