Danville Police arrest man with gun and controlled substance

The incident happened on Wednesday, December 5 at around 8:00 p.m. and was stopped around North GIlbert and Roselawn in Danville. During the stop, officers used a Police K9 and the driver was identified as 38-year-old Dometrius L. Jones. Jones attempted to evade the officers by speeding, which started a police pursuit in the area of Grant and Center Streets. Jones soon got out of the vehicle and continued the chase on foot.

A holiday tradition returns to Urbana this Saturday as the annual lighting of Candlestick Lane kicks off the season. The opening ceremony is set for Saturday at 6 p.m. on Candlestick Lane, located between Cottage Grove and Philo Road, just south of Washington Street.

Local police departments compete in the Badges Salvation Army Red Kettle Challenge

The competition takes place from December 6 to 7 and aims to raise funds to support The Salvation Army’s “Love Beyond Christmas” Red Kettle campaign with a fundraising goal of $200,000. This year’s competitor’s include the Champaign, Urbana, Mahomet, and Rantoul police departments. The community must support their favorite department by donating to each team’s kettle location during these dates and times:

American Red Cross encourages people to donate for the holiday season

Also, for a limited time, individuals who donate from December 9 to 15 will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. Individuals who donate from December 6, 2024, to January 3, 2025, will receive an exclusive Red Cross long-sleeved T-shirt while supplies last. Donations in Champaign County will be available at Market Place Mall on December 30 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
