A Paxton woman has died from injuries sustained in an ATV crash on private property near Paxton, Illinois, on June 2, 2025. Champaign County Coroner Laurie Brauer released the identity of the deceased as Katherine M. Brzuchowski, 41, of Paxton.
Federal prosecutors are recommending a 12½-year prison sentence and $1.5 million fine for former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, portraying him as a “grand master of corruption” who misused public office for private gain over the course of a decade.
Sheriff Dustin Heuerman has released the results of a Memorial Day weekend traffic enforcement detail conducted by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, focusing on seat belt use and impaired driving prevention. The initiative was part of the statewide “Click It or Ticket” campaign supported by federal highway safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
A 16-year-old juvenile from Danville was arrested Friday, May 23, 2025, following a short foot pursuit by officers with the Danville Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing (P.O.P.) Unit. The incident occurred in the 1400 block of Lape Street during an investigation into a separate crime.
Officers conducted an investigation on Saturday, May 24, at around 4:30 p.m. regarding information involving subjects with firearms. Their lead directed them to an apartment in the 1600 block of Edgewood in “The Grove” apartment complex. The officers made contact with several subjects in the apartment, which led to further investigation. With help from the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office, Danville Officers obtained a Vermilion County search warrant for the same apartment.
The happened on May 24, on North Cunningham Avenue and the victim reported being threatened with a firearm by the offender. During the investigation, Urbana Police collaborated with the University of Illinois Police Department to use their automated license plate reader system. It allowed them to quickly identify a vehicle connected to the incident. The plate reader information was shared with the surrounding agencies, leading the Rantoul Police Department to locate the vehicle in the 200 block of West Frost Street in Rantoul.
Even though an arrest has been made, this remains an ongoing investigation. Due to the ages of both the victim and the arrested subject, information that can be publicly shared about this incident is very limited. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
The pursuit took place on Sunday, May 18, around noon. Warren County reported that the driver refused to stop even after posting speeds over 100 miles per hour. The pursuit went through the City of Danville for around 10 minutes and then proceeded east on US Route 150 outside the city limits. The vehicle eventually crashed attempting to take the I-74 westbound entry ramp at the 210-mile marker.
Champaign County Coroner Laurie Brauer has confirmed the identity of a deceased male discovered on May 15, 2025, in Heritage Lake, located in Rantoul. With the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the individual has been positively identified as Matteo Antonio-Antonia, a resident of Champaign.
The officers then found 41-year-old Daniel Kist of Danville nine blocks from the scene. Kist was then arrested and taken to the Public Safety Building to be questioned. Daniel Kist was booked and charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and is being held at the Vermilion County jail pending a pre-trial hearing.
