
Alcohol and drug impairment are estimated to be a factor in more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. There is one alcohol-related traffic fatality every 39 minutes in the United States. The ACE program allows officers to work even harder at removing dangerous DUI offenders from the road. This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The Champaign Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect involved in an armed robbery that took place last month at a local gas station.

The UPD stated that DORS reflects their commitment to transparency, accessibility, and service. They hope to modernize, connect with the community, and use resources more effectively. DORS helps reduce call volumes, improves report accuracy, and allows officers to focus on emergency response.

A significant police response unfolded earlier today on Bradley Avenue just west of McKinley, where officers from the Champaign Police Department and the Illinois State Police were involved in arrests connected to an ongoing investigation.

Two men from Grayville, Illinois, are in custody following a string of early morning burglaries at two Casey’s General Store locations in Champaign County. The first break-in occurred during the early hours of Saturday, April 12, at the Casey’s General Store located at 408 North Lincoln in Philo. Unknown suspects forced entry into the store and made off with various stolen items, including U.S. currency.

Urbana Police have arrested Kartila Brooks, 40, of Champaign, for Aggravated DUI and DUI drugs in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on March 13 at the intersection of Philo Road and Colorado Avenue. The crash claimed the life of a two-month-old infant.

Several Champaign-Urbana restaurants, including Sun Singer, Suzu’s Bakery, and Sushi Siam, are seeing a surge in fraudulent online orders—forcing at least one to halt its delivery and online payment services.

Danville Police Detectives arrested and booked 44-year-old Shane A. May of Danville of charges of First Degree Murder. May was arrested about eight hours after officers received a call about a deceased person in the 700 block of Sherman Street. After an investigation with Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit, the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office, and several community members, probable cause was developed to arrest May for the murder of Monty Peplow.

An autopsy will be completed tomorrow and the investigation is being considered a homicide. The DPD is questioning a person of interest in this incident. The DPD does not believe there is a further threat to the community and no further information can be provided at this time. This is a developing story.

A Champaign man who volunteered for youth organizations and performed as a DJ has pleaded guilty to selling child pornography. With his plea, eight other counts of child-pornography charges against Dante J. Scott, 29, were dismissed. As part of the plea agreement, he will serve 20 years in prison, instead of the standard maximum of 30 years.
