Urbana officers responded to a report of domestic battery on Sunday, March 2. The victim was discovered with several visible injuries. Upon investigation, the victim provided a video of the 18-year-old suspect brandishing a modded rifle. Further investigation led officers to recover the illegally modified firearm. The suspect was then located, interviewed, and taken into custody on multiple charges.
Champaign County Coroner Laurie Brauer has identified the man who died after being struck by a motor vehicle on March 4 in Champaign. James McCammon, 58, was pronounced dead at 6:26 p.m. in the Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Department in Urbana.

A Mahomet man was cited for a Scott’s Law violation after Illinois State Police said he struck a stopped squad car on March 1 near Chebanse. The incident occurred when a State Police trooper responded to debris in the road on I-57 at approximately 2 p.m. The trooper parked in the right lane with emergency lights flashing and was removing the debris when the Lincoln SUV driven by 66-year-old Harold McComb of Mahomet hit the squad car from behind.
On February 11 at 3:49 p.m., a woman entered multiple parked cars at the 400 block of East John Street in Champaign. It was discovered that several items in one vehicle were moved around and a glove box was opened. It is unknown if anything was stolen. The woman was described wearing a teal jacket with a hood, blue jeans, white/tan shoes, and carrying a green bag.
19-year-old Tyjohn Williams was sentenced to over five decades in prison on Monday after being convicted of the 2022 murder of Lyft driver Kristian Philpotts. Williams was found guilty of four counts of first-degree murder following a bench trial in November.
