High school students are encouraged to explore future careers and dive into hands-on discovery during the 2025 Illini Summer Academies, hosted by Illinois Extension 4-H. The immersive, five-day event will take place on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus from June 22–26.
The Education Pathway Endorsement is designed for students pursuing careers in education. Graduates of Unit 4 who fulfill the requirements will receive an Education Pathways Endorsement. The Career Technical Education Education Career Pathways Grant aims to increase teacher diversity in the future. Illinois has faced a shortage of educators of color, with a teacher workforce less diverse than its student population.
On Friday, April 4, the Parkland College Foundation commemorated the 30th anniversary of its Ford Automotive Student Service Education Training (ASSET) program, a milestone that highlights the program’s success, innovation, and commitment to training the next generation of automotive professionals.
This award recognizes exceptional performance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. A committee for the award recommends finalists approved by Illinois Chancellor Robert Jones. The recipients receive $1,500 and a commemorative award. Two staff members are recognized in eight of the functional categories.
The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley (GCMS) Board of Education took action on Thursday, April 3rd, adopting a resolution that placed GCMS Middle School teacher and coach Robert Dinkins on paid administrative leave. This decision comes as two open investigations into alleged misconduct are ongoing.
The program is open to any UHS Student who commits to a minimum of 30 hours of volunteer service during the academic year. Students with 30 hours of service will receive a Certificate of Service. Students with 50, 75 or 100 hours of service will also earn bronze, silver or gold status and receive an additional recognition item. All participants will be recognized at the Mayoral Service Recognition Ceremony on April 16, 2025.

Urbana residents with children who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2025, can now register them for the 2025-26 kindergarten school year. Registration will take place on April 10, 2025, at Lincoln Square Mall from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with families entering through the south doors.
