Troy Lanz founded Lanz Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, Inc. in 2002 after 16 years of experience working in the HVAC industry. In those first few years, we provided Champaign-Urbana and the surrounding areas with residential heating and cooling systems. We added our service department in 2005, soon followed by our plumbing division, duct cleaning service, commercial HVAC services, refrigeration, and most recently, underground solutions. Today, Lanz Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, Inc. is a leading heating and AC contractor, employing over 115 people with a fleet of about 90 trucks, with continuing growth every year. While we have grown quickly, we take great pride in maintaining our mission statement.

One of the major concerns homeowners have when facing water line issues is the potential damage to their yard or property during replacement.

“Hard water,” rich in calcium and magnesium, often leaves scale in fixtures, soap scum, and water spots on dishes.

With energy costs rising and home comfort top of mind, more homeowners are turning to ductless mini split systems. Michael Savage, a comfort consultant at Lanz Heating & Cooling, says the popularity is no surprise.

Your home’s plumbing isn’t just a convenience—it’s a system that ages over time, often hidden beneath your feet. Jesse Stephens, Underground Solutions Manager at Lanz, says understanding that system is key to avoiding costly damage down the line.

Sump pumps are essential for protecting homes from water damage, particularly in basements and crawl spaces prone to flooding. They work by automatically removing excess groundwater that collects in a sump basin, typically during heavy rain or snowmelt, and redirecting it safely away from the home’s foundation. This helps prevent structural issues, mold growth, and costly water damage. For homes in areas with high water tables or frequent storms, a sump pump provides critical protection and peace of mind.

Every home is equipped with a series of systems, including gas lines, electrical wiring, pipes for fresh water, sewer lines, and drainage pipes. While these systems are out of sight, they play a pivotal role in ensuring a comfortable and safe living space.
