National Hamburger Day is being celebrated on Wednesday, May 28, with $5 burgers at participating locations. This one-day-only offer is a tribute to America’s favorite sandwich in Champaign County.
Urbana School District 116 will be offering free breakfast and lunch to children 18 and under this summer through the federally funded Summer Meal Program. The initiative, running from June through mid-July 2025, ensures that all children in the area—regardless of income or school enrollment—have access to nutritious meals during the summer break.
The happened on May 24, on North Cunningham Avenue and the victim reported being threatened with a firearm by the offender. During the investigation, Urbana Police collaborated with the University of Illinois Police Department to use their automated license plate reader system. It allowed them to quickly identify a vehicle connected to the incident. The plate reader information was shared with the surrounding agencies, leading the Rantoul Police Department to locate the vehicle in the 200 block of West Frost Street in Rantoul.
She earned a doctorate in higher education finance, a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in journalism, from Indiana University. The new title brings the UIUC campus in line with similar positions at the two other campuses at the University of Illinois System. The duties and reporting lines of the position, however, still remain the same.

When Albin Selimi reopened his family’s longtime restaurant under a new name and fresh identity, he didn’t anticipate just how quickly the community would embrace it. Formerly known as Urbana Gardens, the restaurant is now Maple & Yolk, and it’s drawing crowds — with 1,500 patrons on weekends alone.

Illinois is currently the only U.S. state requiring seniors to pass a driving test solely due to age. If signed into law, HB 1226 would align Illinois more closely with other states’ renewal policies, while still maintaining safeguards for road safety through vision and written testing and medical reporting.
The pursuit took place on Sunday, May 18, around noon. Warren County reported that the driver refused to stop even after posting speeds over 100 miles per hour. The pursuit went through the City of Danville for around 10 minutes and then proceeded east on US Route 150 outside the city limits. The vehicle eventually crashed attempting to take the I-74 westbound entry ramp at the 210-mile marker.
